Dr. Therapist…

Written by Malene

I admit to this: He is very charming, very cute smile, and he seems to know, what he is talking about. And he is a Doctor, so apparently he should be trusted. He also makes money on peoples lack of information, so I guess he won’t mind a bit of viral marketing from me. You can follow his blog, but I am really only mentioning him here, because I found a video from him on Youtube.

Ok. So, this is a guy, a Doctor, who makes a living out of selling advice to us lost empaths. These are the freebees, so perhaps the advice you pay for is worth the money. And he is a therapist, so he MUST know what he is talking about… Yeah…

Well, I am certainly not a dr. therapist, so I don’t really know anything. Yet, I dare question his techniques, and I think I will just take it from the top and work my way down.

To begin with I have to state, that I have a problem with the spiritual way of dealing with problems as if they are just auras that needs to be cleansed. His video is an excellent example of such a perception, and there are so many reasons as to why I think it is wrong.

It is a matter of balance, I think we can agree on that much. A balanced human being is a happy and free human being, and we should all strive to find this balance within. He believes it is a matter of energy, ok, I can follow that thought for a while. Emotions could be seen as energies, and we must get our empathic information from some source of energy somehow.

I do believe that balance is an emotional issue, influenced by other factors, but still very much about our own feelings – especially for an empath. His methods of raising, lowering or cleansing the energy could be argued against, but for the higher purpose of this post, I will follow that theory as well. After all, I am not the doctor here.

He says somewhere that dark cannot exist when there is light. So, dark is bad, light is good.

That brings me rapidly back to the balance issue. Because in my highly disputed opinion, you cannot be balanced, if you do not embrace your dark side. If you oppress anger, it will grow. If you try to deny grief, it will follow you. If you do not embrace lust or desire, it will take control of your actions on a subconscious level. So in order to be a balanced human being, you need to take care of the ‘forbidden’ emotion, before they take care of you. That is not to say you need to live out your emotions, but you need to embrace them and honor them as valid emotions, even if you cannot outlive them.

But what Dr. Smith is talking about is basically to cleanse auras and raise the energy level, getting away from all those nasty energies surrounding you, getting away from the darkness and up in the light. He splits the person in something good and something bad, and if you just use these remedies (with a bit of commercial to go with it), you will be fine.

This is what is wrong:

He proclaims to know what he is talking about – we should trust him, he is a professional. But his advice does not help any empath by giving the proper tools to deal with at least the empaths own feelings. This really has nothing to do with empath issues, but that is his focus area, and I believe he has made a smart move. Because after all there is no knowledge out there. All we have are experiences, and that is not very reliable.

And so here comes the hot doctor with advice. He cannot be counter argued, he is a professional. You cannot look up his theories, as you would be able to, had he been a specialist in neuroscience, he came first, he sets the standard

Dr. Michael Smith, you are cute, and you are clever, but I would have had a greater respect for you, had you not called yourself Dr. Therapist. It is misleading and just not the right thing to do.

(Note: he never exactly used the “Dr. Therapist”, it is mentioned different places. I just wanted to stretch my point.)

The more people put themselves as saints, the more sinners are born. It is all about balance. Everyone who thinks darkness can be overcome are far off the grid. In a perfect world, everyone would be balanced and therefore much of the the “world issues” would not exist but with all the misinformation out there, who can blame those who want to escape and live in a fantasy world in the name of love&light. you cannot have one or the other.

Well put, Jane! And thank you for commenting. :-)

I believe, it is impossible to live life in love&light, as you so nicely put it, if you don’t acknowledge the existence of your own “darkness”. People have screwed up ideas about how wrong it is to feel anger or lust, so they deny and reject. And if feelings were so simple to deal with as that, then we would have world peace.
I remember being told as a child, that God would punish me, not only for my actions, but for my thoughts and feelings as well. I was never that receptive towards our bible teachings, but I imagine lectures like that must f*ck up people every day world wide.

I remember only last week listening to his ‘free’webcast and it didn’t sit with me at all. In fact it felt like he is still blocking his issues and blocking the ability to feel others. Protective shielding (even before I read any of this or found the empathic community) always felt wrong, like I was missing something. We are empaths for a reason, TO FEEL! I have loved your posts Malene. I am very new to this and am still learning about how to let go. I think my hidden ‘relevent’ value is I am still an afraid little girl who is really scared of being hurt. I need to embrace this fear. Isn’t that what life is about, embracing yourself?
Thanks for your honesty and help
